I believe killer robots is slightly above mistakes.

It wasn't intentional. At least not on his part. The robot did sound very much like Stark, so perhaps it was for him.

I'm not sure how you can unintentionally make a killer robot.

Oh, well, it was something they call artificial intelligence, a machine with its own mind, and the machine took Stark's robot armor bodies for itself.

[ Thor doesn't know that he understands the details. ]

But then I helped them make a good robot. It could lift the hammer.

[ loki goes cold. ]

It did what.

[ Thor smiles. What a world. ]

It was very polite, it made a cape like mine too. I think it wanted to be like me.

[ And who wouldn't???? ]

[ thanks, he hates everything about this. loki pointedly stares out the window. a machine could lift the hammer. but of course a good soulless machine would. the only criteria the hammer seems to have is against monsters anyway. ]

It'll be for a rude awakening when you return then.

Without the hammer? I doubt it will care.

[ Do robots care? Maybe. This one seemed very lifelike. ]

The Captain was taking the robot under his wing, it will surely do well there.

[ Better, to be honest, than Stark, not that he'd say that. It's rude. True, but rude. ]

No, because you're a disappointment now.

[ it's mean, but loki doesn't feel the need to retract his claws. that stupid hammer always gets under his skin. ]

[ Despite their relationship being difficult, despite the past, it's classic Thor that he still looks genuinely surprised when Loki stabs at him verbally. And seconds later that surprise turns to hurt. Which, naturally, turns to anger.]

I was a hero to our people long before I met any humans.

[ He's only known Earth for a few years, very few compared to their long lives. His fondness for it is very real, but new. ]

Why do you seek to fight with me? I have done naught to deserve it.

You were a hero of beating things up and wanting to kill giants. Not exactly the noblest of pursuits.

[ his arms tighten, still crossed. ]

And I'm not picking a fight.

You are picking a fight and being mean-spirited for no reason.

And you were showing off for no reason!

[ Thor looks genuinely confused. ]

I don't need to hear about you and that stupid robot lifting Mjolnir.

[ Thor just stares, considering numerous things to say, some of them mean, but instead he shrugs. ]

Stark and Rogers say it doesn't count. It's a machine, like one of their elevators, which can also lift the hammer.

[ loki purses his lips tightly. ]

And what would Stark and the Captain know of anything?

Well they all tried to lift the hammer and couldn't.

[ Thor had suspicions about Steve but he is definitely not sharing them with anyone. ]

I have no opinion about whether the robot counts. It was only a minute old when it lifted it, a baby.

[ Maybe babies can lift the hammer! ]

[ shocking that tony stark and steve rogers can't lift it. truly. who would have thought.

Why would you? You've never had to care about it until it was taken from you. That's how it always is. It never matters until it's yours.

[ worthiness, the throne, the hammer. only when it's taken away that thor is possessed with a singular instinct to do something about it. ]
