Well they all tried to lift the hammer and couldn't.

[ Thor had suspicions about Steve but he is definitely not sharing them with anyone. ]

I have no opinion about whether the robot counts. It was only a minute old when it lifted it, a baby.

[ Maybe babies can lift the hammer! ]

Why would you? You've never had to care about it until it was taken from you. That's how it always is. It never matters until it's yours.

[ worthiness, the throne, the hammer. only when it's taken away that thor is possessed with a singular instinct to do something about it. ]

Loki, Hela carried the hammer. It is hardly the judge of character anyone thought it was.

I think he cared very much, actually. What people thought of him, of us.

Honestly, Loki, your obsession with the hammer is foolish. In the end it was one of the tools he used to make me into what he wanted.

[ loki whips his head to face thor, fire in his eyes. ]

And you loved every minute of it! When they made me king, I was alone. Our mother handed Gungnir to me like it was nothing. No one clapped. No one cheered.

You have no idea what I would have given just to feel . . . [ loki shakes his head. the fire dims. it's pointless to expect thor to understand anyway. ]

The fact you expected a celebration for your ego when I was in exile and father forced into Odinsleep is insane, Loki. You cannot force people to feel what they do not.

[ Thor waves at the ship in general. ]

But they would cheer for you now, is that not enough? Neither of us deserved it back then, but we do now, why must you always live in the past?

[ Thor just gives him a confused look with his one eye. ]

[ he gives a sharp laugh. ]

I was alone with a kingdom, holding a secret that could get me killed. They called me power hungry. Jealous. Because mother gave it to me. Alone and afraid because all I could do was hold onto it until our father awakened to dismiss me or you came back with a hammer.

And you just called it ego.

I have no doubt you were afraid and alone, and I will never forgive our parents for lying to you. Lying to me, I can forgive, lying to you, I cannot.

[ Thor raises his eyebrows. ]

But you let Frost Giants into our home on my coronation out of jealousy. You wanted people to cheer for you out of ego. And you tried to take over Earth out of hunger for power.

[ He crosses his arms. ]

And I loved their cheers because of my ego, and I started the war with the Frost Giants out of arrogance, and I hurled threats at our father out of immaturity. Do you think I only see your weaknesses and not my own?

[ it helps a little to have thor speak of his own and tamps down on the simmer. ]

I think you have a bad habit of simplifying them. And as I said, I'm not interested in forgiveness.

You should be. It is the best way to heal.

[ well, he is but they're old hurts. and this calamity eclipses them even though he brought them up and loki is aware of that. ]
